After years of playing percussion and steelpan professionally in Trinidad and Tobago and many other caribbean islands. I’ve been asked quite a few questions about playing calypso grooves, soca (live/recording), Steelpan and Steelband drumming.
What’s your warm-up routine”? What is the inspiration for that groove you just played”?
I structure classes simply, as organized sessions configured to answer all these questions.
My love of music, particularly the rhythms that make up and/or accompany melodies, is why I started playing the drums in the first place. As many of us progress as players, so does our technique, which can turn the importance to speed, flash, and ridiculously complicated chops. This distracts us from the most important thing about playing the drums - Making music!
Drumatik Concepts will give you the tools to become not only a better drummer, but a better musician overall.
